DRAPING
CORDED LACE WEDDING DRESS
Assignment in my Draping class to learn how to work with and sew corded lace. I was inspired by lichen and moss and decided to make a wedding dress based on those plants. I used the corded lace at the top of the dress and make the skirt out of flared portions of muslin to make up the leafs of a tree. This dress was made from corded lace and muslin as it was a first draft sample piece
KNIT JERSEY
SPINE DRESS
Assignment in my Draping class to pin drape a dress using a knit jersey fabric that was provided by the school. I was inspired by a cosplay project I saw online based on the character Morpheus from The Sandman, and decided to try to make a skeletal dress focusing on the spine and rib cage.
BAROQUE
DRESS
The final assignment in my Draping class was to drape a dress inspired by a piece of architecture. There was also the requirement that we had to use one or more methods of fabric manipulation. I decided to focus on one of my favourite architectural styles and buildings; the baroque style Chapel of the Holy Shroud in Turin, Italy. I focused on the internal patterning along its walls and the layering of architectural elements as the main inspiration points.
As for the fabric manipulation, I chose to embroider the lower part of the bodice in a pattern that appeared on the walls of the Chapel of the Holy Shroud. The entire dress was made from secondhand fabrics. Around 1 0.5m of brocade, 0.3m of chiffon, 0.5 m of silk, and 6 m of satin were used to make this dress. As it was a sample it is unlined.
